Great primer on estimation principles

I bought this book on recommendation from a co-worker as we began a complex estimation phase for over 90 detailed sub-project entities as part of a master project delivery. The book helped me understand the reasons for a lot of my past failings in project estimation and improve my accuracy and level of detail on the work we are now executing (for about the first time in my life my project is ON timeline!). Estimation is obviously only the first step in the project delivery food chain, but if you start off without enough budget and detail to do the work then you have limited ability to course-correct later. I especially found the section on 'negotiating' estimates with business executives to be helpful -- this is where I've always waffled and ended up shooting myself in the foot with past projects by not having thought through the negotiation process. Overall a great primer on estimation, plenty of references/bibliography for more detail. A few sections felt repetitive, but not distractingly so. Definitely a recommended read for anyone planning software development projects.

There are not many books on software estimation. About the Author
Jack Snowman is Professor Emeritus of Educational Psychology at Southern Illinois University. He earned his Ph.D. in educational psychology at Indiana University in 1975. His research is in the area of cognitive and learning strategies. His recent publications include "Learning Tactics and Strategies" in COGNITIVE CLASSROOM LEARNING (Academic Press, 1986) and "Explorations in Mnemonic Training" in IMAGERY AND RELATED MNEMONIC PROCESSING (Springer-Verlag, 1987).

Rick McCown is Professor in the School of Education at Duquesne University, PA. He earned his Ph.D. at Indiana University in 1980. He is active in the Educational Psychology community, including leading presentations at the American Educational Research Association conference. A colleague of Jack Snowman for 25 years, Dr. McCown shares Snowman's views about the role of educational psychology in teacher education. He is an accomplished writer, with published papers (one of which was co-authored with Snowman), journal articles, and book chapters.

The book gives a synthetic presentation of the research performed in the field of sheet metal forming simulation during more than twenty years by the members of three teams: the Research Centre on Sheet Metal Forming – CERTETA (Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania); AUTOFORM software-house company from Zürich, Switzerland and VOLVO automotive company from Sweden.

The first chapter reminds some fundamental topics of the theory of plasticity. A more extended chapter is devoted to the presentation of the phenomenological yield criteria, emphasizing the formulations proposed by the CERTETA team (BBC models). The sheet metal formability is discussed in a separate chapter. After presenting the methods used for the formability assessment, the discussion focuses on the forming limit curves. In this context, the authors emphasize their contributions to the mathematical modeling of forming limit curves. The aspects related to the implementation of the constitutive models in finite-element codes are discussed in the last chapter of the book. The performances of the models are proved by the numerical simulation of various sheet metal forming processes: hydroforming, deep-drawing and forming of the complex parts. Michael Sanders is the creator of the Advanced Multitasking model. He is a program manager, organizational change consultant, popular public speaker, technical writer, author, and Native American. Michael has presented and taught Advanced Multitasking at hundreds of business events, corporations, and universities throughout California and Nevada since its inception in 2008. Michael has a Master's degree in Organizational Management with certifications in project management, scrum, change management, business management, instructional design, and business writing, with extensive training in co-active coaching.

Practical Tools for the Real World

This book balances the "what" with the "why." Behind every tool there is solid science and the author's real-life experience. The author encourages us to look within ourselves, and examine the habits that contribute to inefficiency and dysfunctional time utilization. Even if you think you've been-there-done-that, the frameworks in this book will support you with the ever-increasing complexity of work and its accompanying demands.

Mike's conversation is a real eye opener on the misconception of multitasking. Additionally, Mike provides valuable insights on how to more effectively task switch, which is what we are actually doing when we think we are multitasking. This book is a must read for anyone that is trying to manage multiple projects.

This book offers very deep understanding of the harms of porn on our society. It's the first of its kind, providing research from many different perspectives and on different aspects of our society. Very interesting and powerful.

Being Catholic, I always enjoy it when secular research confirms the obvious. The Witherspoon Institute is obviously conservative in nature, but the research here is 100% objective. This is a must-have for any apologist.

Wake up! America has been transporned.
By "Strange Affair"
This book should have a much wider audience. The price puts it out of the range of most people, and the high level of discussion furthers the problem. A simpler book for the masses is needed based upon the material in this book. We have a problem, Houston. No one wants to admit how devastating the porn problem is. Our children are being bombarded daily with doses of sexuality that prevent them from living out that most important period of our lives innocently - childhood. The gutter is everywhere folks. Its not Bedford Falls, its Pottersville gone to pots. America needs to take a good look at itself and weep bitter tears, for we have fallen, and the giant that we are means that the fall to the very bottom might take a while but we are well on our way. And the the farther you fall, the greater the pain when you finally hit the bottom.
